January Nuts & Bolts: Preparing for Sentencing Hearings

January 25, 2010; 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm: Defense attorney Walter Nash and Assistant Federal Public Defender Heather Williams will present practical guidance in preparing for sentencing hearings.

The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion. The panel will include Judge Bury, Judge Zapata, AUSA Munish Sharda, defense attorney Walter Nash, AFPD Heather Williams, and Supervisory U.S. Probation Officer Jim Cook.

District of Arizona Annual Conference

Chief District Court Judge John M. Roll cordially invites you to attend the 2010 District of Arizona Annual Conference. This year’s district conference will be held on Friday, February 12, 2010 and will qualify for up to six hours CLE credit, including three hours of ethics credit.

The Conference will be held at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel and will run from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM, breakfast and lunch included, with a reception to honor Magistrate Judge Morton Sitver to follow.

Registration Fee (include breakfast and lunch): $130 for private lawyers; $75 for public lawyers; $50 for law students.

February 18, 2010 Tucson FBA Luncheon: Perspectives on the Americans With Disabilities Act

Join the Tucson FBA for a CLE luncheon presenting an overview of the Americans With Disabilities Act by Randall Howe, Esq. Mr. Howe will review the history and effect of the ADA from the perspective of a person with a disability and through his career as a lawyer, including the experience of appearing before the US Supreme Court.

Mr. Howe is currently the Deputy Chief of the Appellate Division in the Appeals Division of the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona. Mr. Howe argued Clark v. Arizona before the United States Supreme Court in April 2006. In 2007, the State Bar awarded Mr. Howe the Distinguished Public Lawyer Award. Mr. Howe has also been involved in the disability community since 1988. He served as Chair of the Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities from 2004 to 2005. In 2005, he received the Mayor’s Award from the City of Phoenix Mayor’s Commission on Disability Issues for his leadership in increasing public awareness about issues affecting people with disabilities. He currently serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Arizona Center for Disability Law and is a member of the Board of Directors of Arizona Bridge to Independent Living.
